When getting quotes for car insurance, you’re probably looking for any edge that will lower your premiums. A good driving record helps, as does a history of low claims. But many people looking for a discount based on their line of work could be disappointed. Being a doctor or lawyer may be a bonus if you’re applying for a loan, but it’s not going to win any brownie points from auto insurance companies, according to updated statistics on car crashes by occupation.

Otherwise upstanding doctors, lawyers and architects top the list of those who crash the most.

One might expect crashes from doctors, say, rushing to the ER or driving home after a 30-hour shift (though you could offer less charitable explanations about a sense of entitlement). Yet there are surprises on the top ten list that seemingly have few ties to the jobs themselves: engineers, analysts, military personnel.
