Yes, teen drivers are the scariest
Teens have a bad rap when it comes to their driving skills – and it’s totally deserved. They’re inexperienced drivers and they lack reliable reflexes when something goes wrong in front of them. This can be solved through experience on the road.
Then there are problems that are teens’ own fault: They text, eat and talk while driving. They change CDs and tune the radio. In short, they aren’t paying attention.
And now we’ve found additional evidence that teens are scary drivers: It’s safer to ride with a 90-year-old driver than a teen.
Actuary Fred Kilbourne crunched some numbers for us, and using data from Texas he found that the teen-driver death rate is about triple that of older drivers.
Something to think about next time you have a choice between going home with grandma or your teenage child.

Sep 25, 09 at 10:01 amYes, I believe that teens are probably the riskiest drivers out there because of their inexperience. However, it’s not just teens that text, eat and talk while driving. Many adults are guilty of doing the same thing.

Sep 25, 09 at 11:44 amWe need better driver’s education on the front end and senior testing on the back end. Seniors can keep renewing their licenses no matter how bad their driving is. You can’t always leave it up to families to take away a license of someone who shouldn’t be on the road anymore.

Sep 25, 09 at 2:36 pmOk, I get that teens are bad drivers, but have you been in the car with my grandmother lately? She ran over three mail boxes in one day!!!! A few times I wanted to jump out of the car while it was still rolling.
